Lesson information:
As you watch the video, look out for these learning points:
- Set the context to prepare the learner
- Give the learner realistic dialogue options with realistic mistakes
- Allow learners to recover from their mistakes
- Provide feedback to the learner about what they did well, what they can improve, and why
An interactive learning conversation allows learners to speak to a virtual human and practice soft skills in a safe environment.
There are several key elements in designing these conversations:
- First, provide context so learners know who they are talking to and their goal in the conversation.
- Next, create realistic and engaging character dialogues to help learners apply the skills to their daily lives.
- Then, offer learners choices to respond, including realistic mistakes, allowing them to experience the consequences of negative choices and learn how to recover from missteps.
- Lastly, feedback is an optional but useful component. Feedback can take various forms, such as a virtual human's reaction or a scoring screen. The crucial aspect of feedback is explaining not only what the learner did well or poorly, but also why, as this helps them change their actions in the future.
By incorporating context, character dialogue, user decisions, and feedback, a successful interactive learning conversation can be achieved.
